MTN has dropped the price of its own-branded  smartphone Steppa 2 to entice more customers to buy the device.

MTN has slashed the price of its popular Steppa 2 smartphone from R999 to R799 effective immediately.

MTN launched the Steppa 2 smartphone after a resounding success of the original Steppa smartphone which was South Africa’s most affordable smartphone when it launched in 2013.

The MTN Steppa 2 runs on the popular Android 4.3 operating system which gives users access to thousands of Android-based apps. Steppa 2 has a 5 megapixel camera and comes preloaded with popular starter apps such as Facebook, Twitter, AVG Anti-Virus and helpful MTN apps such as myMTNza, which helps users to buy data bundles and check their remaining balance on the go.

The Steppa 2 has large 4-inch LCD screen and a resolution of 480×800 pixels. It boasts a 1,2GHz dual-core processor with 4GB of storage space which can be expanded by a microSD card, and a battery life rated at 1 500mAh.

“The reduced cost of the Steppa 2 will ensure that more consumers are able to afford what is already the most affordable high-performance smartphone in the market. This brings this critically-acclaimed smartphone within the reach of millions of consumers and introduces them into a rich world of data, which will go a long way towards bridging the digital divide. This is just one way that MTN is demonstrating its commitment to attaining its vision of leading the delivery of a bold new digital world,” says Larry Annetts, Chief Marketing Officer: MTN South Africa.
