Volvo Cars has officially pulled back the curtain on a new chapter in its storied legacy of adventure-ready vehicles.

Alongside the global debut of the all-electric Volvo EX60, the company introduces the EX60 Cross Country — an SUV engineered not just for the road, but for the path less traveled.

This model electrifies Volvo’s beloved Cross Country ethos, merging class-leading EV performance with the rugged versatility that defines the line.

More Than a Trim: A Heritage Electrified

First introduced in 1997, Volvo’s Cross Country models have always been a bold statement of freedom and exploration.

They are vehicles designed to do more and see more. With the EX60 Cross Country, that philosophy enters the electric era.

“The EX60 Cross Country is the EX60 for anyone with a ‘go anywhere’ attitude,” says Erik Severinson, Chief Commercial Officer.

“Built to do more and see more, the EX60 Cross Country embodies not only the sense of exploration but also a reflection of achievement.

“We basically invented this segment, and we felt the EX60 was the perfect next Volvo to get the Cross Country treatment.”

It’s a vehicle designed to deliver all the benefits of the standard EX60 – including a remarkable estimated 640 km of electric range, fast charging, and state-of-the-art safety and infotainment technology – but with a distinctly adventurous character.

Engineered for Capability

The EX60 Cross Country isn’t just about aesthetics; it’s built with enhanced capability.

It features all-wheel drive as standard and a chassis tuned for confidence.

Sitting 20 mm higher than the standard EX60, it offers the commanding view of the road that SUV drivers love.

For added versatility, the available adaptive air suspension can raise the ride height another 20 mm for rough terrain, or lower it to optimize aerodynamics and range on the highway.

Customers will have two powerful all-wheel-drive electric powertrains to choose from, starting with the P10 AWD Electric with its up to 640 km of range.

A Rugged, Scandinavian Design

Visually, the Cross Country variant makes a clear statement. It debuts an exclusive Frost Green paint colour, inspired by the Scandinavian wilderness.

Unique wheels, wider rugged wheel arches, and brushed stainless-steel skid plates front and rear emphasize its robust stance.

Subtle yet distinct Cross Country branding on the bumpers and D-pillar marks its special place in the Volvo family.

A Vehicle for the South African Spirit

The “go anywhere” attitude resonates deeply in markets defined by diverse landscapes and a love for exploration.

“South Africans have always had a strong connection to exploration and enjoying the freedom of the open road,” commented Grant Locke, Managing Director of Volvo Car South Africa.

“The EX60 Cross Country builds on that spirit and will form part of the EX60’s available versions.

“It embodies the confidence and capability customers expect from a Cross Country model, while staying true to Volvo’s commitment to sustainability.”

While local specifications and availability are being finalized, the intent is clear: the EX60 Cross Country is designed to be the electric companion for real-world adventures, proving that sustainability and the spirit of exploration can powerfully coexist.

The Volvo EX60 Cross Country is more than a new model, it’s an invitation. An invitation to explore further, with the confidence of legendary Volvo safety, the freedom of electric range, and the unmistakable character of a true Cross Country.
