Southern Africa Telecommunication Networks and Applications Conference (SATNAC) today confirmed the attendance of  Solly Malatsi, Minister of Communications & Digital Technologies, highlighting the conference’s pivotal role in shaping telecommunications across the region.

Also, the speaker lineup, will be joined by keynote speaker Professor Benjamin Rosman, a pioneer in artificial intelligence. As a Director of the Machine Intelligence and Neural Discovery (MIND) Institute at the University of the Witwatersrand and Chief Science Officer at Lelapa AI, Professor Rosman’s work has significantly advanced AI and machine learning, with a strong focus on African innovation.

His expertise in reinforcement learning and decision-making in autonomous systems, along with his leadership in building AI for Africans, by Africans, will provide invaluable insights to the conference.

SATNAC 2024, under the theme “The AI-Driven Hyperconnected Future: co-creating shared value,” promises to offer thought-provoking discussions and research presentations. South Africa’s increasing role in AI adoption, reflected by the workforce’s eagerness to upskill in this domain, makes events like SATNAC crucial to fostering innovation and collaboration.

“Minister Solly Malatsi’s presence further emphasises the importance of AI as a transformative tool for digital inclusion and economic growth in South Africa,” says Dr Mmaki Jantjies, SATNAC Chairperson and Group Executive of the Innovation and Transformation Office at Telkom SA. “We’re excited to engage with Policymakers, Industry Leaders, and Academics to explore the intersections of AI, telecommunications, and the future of a connected Africa.”

SATNAC continues its legacy of innovation, offering a platform for professionals across sectors. Academia and Government to share knowledge and discuss the latest trends shaping the ICT industry. The conference also supports Telkom’s Centres of Excellence (CoE) Programme, addressing the shortage of skilled ICT professionals in South Africa.
