Telkom Group announced today that it has appointed highly regarded digital communications and media expert Randall Abrahams as Group Executive: Digital Solutions, in a move that will bolster the Group’s strong digital strategy.

Abrahams will manage the Digital Platform business for Telkom within its technology function. His responsibilities will include driving digital strategy, as well as identifying and implementing innovative technologies to develop opportunities for the Group.

Abrahams is well equipped to drive Telkom’s digital business, having worked in leadership and strategy roles in the digital content, music, broadcasting, television and online sectors.

“We are excited to have Randall joining Telkom,” says Telkom Group CEO, Serame Taukobong. “His expertise in the digital and communications space is highly respected, and we look forward to working with him on our ongoing digital transformation to deliver value for our stakeholders.”

The Telkom digital strategy aligns with its PIVOT business strategy and is centred around providing API-powered services to the customer. The approach serves to enhance IT architecture, improve simplicity in service and enhance the cybersecurity of its application offerings.

Abrahams will also be involved in developing Telkom’s platform business in non-connectivity products such as fintech, advertising, content, Smart Homes, and Small Business Enterprise solutions.

“Joining Telkom is a proud moment for me, and I relish the challenge and the opportunities that the Group offers,” says Abrahams. “It’s a chance to really make a difference, by improving the lives of South Africans through Telkom’s data-led capabilities.”

Abrahams has had an illustrious career that has seen him occupy several prominent leadership positions across the South African telecommunications and media sector over the past three decades. He has worked as station manager at Good Hope FM and YFM; GM of Public Commercial Radio at the SABC; CEO of the SA Music Awards; MD of Universal Music Africa; and most recently as CEO of Broadcasting at Primedia.

Abrahams is also a household name in South Africa thanks to his role as a judge on iconic music television show South African Idols.

In his new role, Abrahams will help steer Telkom’s evolution to a fully digital business. Doing so will mean collaborating with cross-functional teams of IT, marketing, product, and customer-experience professionals to align digital initiatives with business needs and to deliver on the Telkom purpose of connecting South Africans to a better life.
