Sheer lingerie is one of the currently hottest trends in the lingerie market. It’s stylish, unique, and super sexy with a scandalous finish. However, see-through lingerie is also—understandably—very intimidating for many women.

If you want to try wearing see-through lingerie for yourself but aren’t sure how to pull it off well, keep reading. Check out these 3 tips for how to pull off sheer lingerie to help you look and feel your very best in see-through lingerie.

  1. Pay Attention to Material

When you’re shopping for sheer lingerie, it’s important to pay attention to the material of the see-through styles you’re considering. Most sheer lingerie styles are made from lace, mesh, or a combination of both. Both of these materials are ultra-sexy, and you can’t really go wrong with either one, but they have their own distinctive features and most women form their own preferences on them over time.

For example, lace material tends to leave a little more to the imagination—because it is has more texture than mesh and is often patterned. Mesh, on the other hand, puts more of your bare skin on display—but it gives your whole figure a blurring effect that is effortlessly flattering.

  1. Layer It

If the thought of flaunting your figure in sheer lingerie triggers your worst body insecurities, that doesn’t mean you can’t join in on the sheer lingerie trend. Try layering your sheer lingerie over an opaque bralette and panty set to ease your discomfort and keep yourself closer to your comfort zone while still pulling off sheer lingerie in a sexy way.

However, it’s also worth noting that most see-through lingerie styles are not completely sheer. They do show off quite a bit of bare skin and you probably wouldn’t be considered “decent” if you wandered into a grocery store in a sheer babydoll. That being said, the semi-sheer finish of most see-through lingerie styles is naturally forgiving to hide imperfections and give your skin and figure a smooth finish.

  1. Take Care of It Well

It doesn’t matter how high-quality your lingerie is or how much you splurged on it when you first bought it; If you don’t take care of your lingerie, it won’t last. This is a good general rule of thumb to remember for all lingerie, but it particularly applies to see-through lingerie. Sheer lingerie is very fragile, and even tiny rips, tears, and runs are very obvious in see-through lingerie—much more so than they would be in lingerie that is made from opaque materials.

Paying attention to the material of your sheer lingerie plays a major role in caring for your see-through lingerie, too. Different materials have different care requirements, so it’s it’s important to know what your sheer lingerie is made of before you try to clean it.

Check the tag on your sheer lingerie for care instructions, but some important care tips that pretty much apply to all see-through lingerie styles is to keep the lingerie out of the washing machine—and definitely steer clear of the dryer. Hand-washing your sheer lingerie carefully with warm water and gentle detergent and letting it air dry on a flat surface is generally the best way to make your see-through style last.
