Cell C network problems in Johannesburg

South Africa’s third biggest mobile phone operator Cell C said on Monday that it is aware of a problem affecting voice calls and SMS for customers in the South of Johannesburg.

The telco said areas affected by the network problems include Alberton to Bedfordview, the East Rand including Benoni to Springs and the Midrand area.

The company added in a statement that data is working normally.

"Cell C apologises for any inconvenience and we confirm that our engineers are urgently working on the problem," the company said.

"We will provide updates as and when they become available and thank our customers for their patience."
