Black Elite, a card-based consumer programme that offers fuel rewards to minibus taxi operators, is slowly winning the hearts of customers.

The fuel rewards programme was launched recently by SA Taxi, an independent minibus taxi financier, in collaboration with Taxi Choice, the commercial arm of the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO).

Black Elite is positioned as “a pioneering multi-faceted card-based rewards program.”

SA Taxi disclosed on Tuesday that as at 30 September 2018, more than 6 300 Black Elite cards had been distributed, with over 40% in active use.

The company said in the future, similar programmes will be considered, including related rewards and benefits.

The Black Elite fuel loyalty programme in partnership with Shell, launched in April 2018, which rewards minibus taxi operators with cash back and airtime for their petrol or diesel purchases.

Meanwhile, the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) has acquired a 25% stake in SA Taxi, a major subsidiary of Transaction Capital.

The deal is valued at R1.7 billion.

SANTACO is a national body which represents the interests of its members who are individual minibus taxi operators.

SA Taxi delivers tangible commercial benefits to taxi operators beyond relevant and affordable finance and insurance products.

SA Taxi and SANTACO have engaged over several years to formalise the industry’s participation in revenue streams of the minibus taxi industry value chain and to achieve meaningful and sustainable commercial benefits for industry participants.
