An MTN store in Mall of the South was robbed on Sunday morning.
The Mall of the South Centre Management confirmed in a statement that an armed robbery took place at the MTN Store on Sunday, 1 October 2017 at 09h05.
The suspects entered the store posing as delivery staff and informed the staff that an armed robbery was in progress.
Hester Smith, Mall of the South Centre Manager, said the MTN staff members were forced to go to their storeroom where they were tied up with cable ties.
“One suspect, wearing the MTN uniform, was standing outside the store as a lookout while the other suspects were inside,” Smith explains.
She added that the suspects left the store with a delivery trolley with bags on it.
“The suspects fled the scene in a white Nissan NP200 with canopy with an undisclosed amount of goods.”
No shots were fired and no injuries sustained during the robbery.
MTN was asked for comment on the incident, ut had not replied by the time of publication.
The South African Police Services (SAPS), Community Policing Forum (CPF) and D&D Tactical were informed immediately and further investigation is underway.
Smith said there is no disruption in the mall and is trading as normal.
The incident follows a robbery at Telkom store in the mall on Saturday, 2 September.
Suspects entered the Mall through the back passage pretending to be tenant staff.
They entered the Telkom store as customers, showed the staff a firearm and fled the site, with an undisclosed amount of goods, in silver Audi.
